All About Red Wine: 6 Fascinating Facts

1. Red Wine is better for you in small doses than not drinking it at all!

This may surprise you, but several studies show that drinking Red Wine in moderation is better for you than not drinking Red Wine at all. It is known that antioxidants found in Red Wine lower cardiovascular disease, type-2 diabetes, and even mortality. It’s always good to drink in moderation, even Red Wine. If you drink too much Red Wine, it can have the opposite benefits and become health risks. 2. Tannin creates Health Benefits for Red Wine.

There are about 5,000 different plant compounds excluding alcohol or water that help make up the health benefits in Red Wine. These compounds are called Polyphenols and include tannin, wine aromas, resveratrol and color pigment. Procyanidins, which are a type of condensed tannin also found in green tea and dark chocolate are the most abundant in wine for health reasons. are This Polyphenol compound is associated with inhibiting cholesterol plaque in blood vessels. 3. Red Wines are not all made the same and some are better for you than others.

Some wines have significantly higher levels of compounds that are good for you and than others. It is hard to determine which wines are truly better here are some clues:

  1. Dry red wines are better than sweet wines.
  2. Red wines with lower alcohol (preferably below 13% ABV) are better than high alcohol wines
  3. Red wines with higher tannin (those that are more astringent) are better than low tannin wines.

Cabernet Sauvignon has more condensed tannins than Pinot Noir, but both wines have much less than Tannat, Petite Sirah, or Sagrantino.

4. Young red wines are better for you than old red wines.

Old aged Red Wines versus new young wines which is actually better for you? As far as the health aspects of wine are concerned, old aged wine isn’t as good! 5. The color in red wine comes from the grape skins.

The color in wine comes from a plant pigment called anthocyanin, which is found in the skins of red grapes.


6. As red wines age, they become lighter in color.

As Wine ages the color becomes less intense. Very old wines are pale and translucent in color.
